Get to Know WTI: Trae Heskett, Computer Technology and Network Administration

Trae enrolled in WTI’s Computer Technology and Network Administration: Associates of Occupational Studies program in October of 2012 after spending a few years in the fast food and customer service industries. Looking to translate his interest of information technology into a career, Trae studied hard and was rewarded with 5 nationally recognized trade certifications throughout his training.  His instructors saw a lot of potential in him and as he neared completion of the curriculum, they recommended that he visit with career services to start his job search early. After completing a professional resume with career services, he didn’t have to wait long before an enticing position became available with one of the school’s valued hiring partners. Trae’s hard work, attention to his studies, and partnership with career services resulted in his acceptance as a Ground Station Operator with Bombardier Learjet.

1. Which program did you graduate from at WTI?

I graduated from the IT program.

2. Why did you choose the program you did?

Since I was a little kid, I’ve been very interested in computers and technology. Also, my father worked in a similar field so I had a lot of exposure.

3. What did you enjoy most about WTI? Why?

I enjoyed the “hands-on” approach to teaching. They taught in a way that was not completely theoretical; they gave me the chance to actually use the skills I was being taught. Also, the teachers were phenomenal.

4. What are your career goals?

I don’t have a specific goal in mind; however, I have just been hired on at Bombardier/Leerjet, so I would like to continue in that direction for as long as I am able, and hopefully I can move up and create a steady career for myself.

5. What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

In my free time, I enjoy playing chess, making music, and learning more about things that pique my interest.

6. Who do you admire? Why?

I admire my father and my grandfather. They have worked hard their whole lives to support their families, and have taught me much of what I know, and without them, I wouldn’t be the person I am now.
