Types of Aid Available

Federal Pell Grant

Pell Grants are awarded to students to help them pay for their undergraduate education. For many, these grants provide a foundation of financial aid to which aid from other federal and non-federal sources may be added. Pell Grants do not have to be repaid.

Subsidized Stafford Loan

The Federal Government pays the interest while you’re in school and during the six months grace period after graduation.

Unsubsidized Stafford Loans

The Federal Government does not pay your interest. Therefore, the interest begins to accrue immediately and is billed quarterly. You may pay the interest while in school or you may choose to have it capitalized.

PLUS Loan

A loan for parents of dependent undergraduate students. Parents with a good credit history may receive these loans. Eligibility is not based on financial need. Parents may use a PLUS loan to borrow the entire cost of attendance, less other aid their child receives.

How to Apply

First, you must complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). These forms are available in the Financial Aid Office. Depending on the method you use to submit your FAFSA, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) in the mail in 3 to 6 weeks. Take the SAR to your Financial Aid Administrator to determine eligibility. To speed process of determining eligibility, submit your completed FAFSA directly to the school Financial Aid Department to be transmitted electronically. You may also apply on-line at: www.fafsa.ed.gov
